Shichimi is arguably one of the most popular spice blends to come out from Japan. Literally meaning Seven Spices Mix, shichimi is commonly made up of a selection of 7 ingredients out of about 8 or 9 most popular traditional ones. The Regency blend uses the most common of these ingredients for our mix, including orange peel for tanginess, black and white sesame seeds for that nutty flavour, hot red chilli flakes, and ground seaweed powder for that extra savoury note. You can use shichimi for virtually everything savoury. The most normal usage is as a topping spice for ramen, udon and tempura when you want that extra spice, but shichimi lovers will put it on anything from sushi to pizza and even in soups.

Shichimi Togarashi Technical Notes

Ingredients: Chillies, Ginger, Orange Peel, Poppy Seeds, Seaweed, Black Sesame Seed, White Sesame Seed, Sichuan Pepper

Usage: This is an all purpose "spicy" topping blend. Use for sushi, ramen, tempura, and any other savoury food to add Japanese spicy flavour notes. Also great cooked into batters.

Please note that our ingredients are 100% natural and processed using traditional methods. As a result there may be some visible imperfections. Our spices will have variations in size and colour due to factors such as the amount of sunlight they received when growing, or the amount of rainfall in a particular season. These differences in appearance are entirely normal, and are the result of not treating them with any chemicals, reducing unnecessary hand selection, and minimizing waste.

Not shichimi togarashi but tasty

Shichimi togarashi does not have numbing sichuan peppers which I find funny, such a spice does not exist in Japanese cuisine. However, it is tasty and recommended if you want a kick on your food. Light in spicy level.

This is amazing stuff - great, complex seasoning

I use it on edamame and in some noodle soups. Lovely!
