Born in Hong Kong from one cook’s frustration—and a family’s expertise in spices.

Regency Spices began with frustration in my own kitchen. I loved a tangy yogurt drink (Laban) from my childhood living in the Middle East, but each year it tasted a little more… diluted. The same was happening to spices, sauces, and even vegetables I bought at the supermarket. When I asked my father—who’d spent decades in the trade—he explained the quiet truth of mass retail: supermarkets need to anchor products to price-points, so something has to give. Usually, it’s quality.

I didn’t believe everyone wanted cheaper over better. Some of us just want what we remember: full flavour, real aroma, no shortcuts. With my family’s generational know-how, we built Regency Spices Hong Kong to protect that standard for the ingredients that we know inside-out. We source our spices and dry fruits from their natural origins, and we refuse additives or cutting corners in growing and processing. Most Regency ingredients are processed the same way they used to be when my grandparents were young. If consistency and honest flavours matter to you, you’re the Regency kind of cook.

Our History in Spices

For generations, our family has searched for better spices and better ways to protect their flavour. Today, Regency combines global sourcing, careful packing in Hong Kong, and a simple quality first approach to bring authentic ingredients to modern kitchens.

The regal story of Regency Spices began in 1951. That is when Shri Dayalji Purshottam Dattani brought East African Spices to India all the way from Tanzania. The spices were quickly adored by all.

The Regency family explored the world to look for the best natural riches and amazing spices. We found spices such as Cassia Cinnamon, Star Anise and Green Raisins.

It was in the year 2014 that Regency Spices set up their first factory in Hong Kong, bringing high quality spices directly to the hands of the consumer. This quickly led to the birth of our consumer product division.

Our spices are some of the best in the world. Staying true to our roots, we believe your food should not be plagued with preservatives or impurities. This is why we only bring you spices that we would use ourselves.

The Life of Spices at Regency

1. Go to origin. We visit farms, cooperatives and our processing partners to verify quality at the source.
2. Choose only the best. We select varieties for flavour, potency, and authenticity—no compromises.
3. Buy whole. We purchase whole spices to prevent adulteration and keep purity intact.
4. Grind fresh. Once they reach Hong Kong, we offer them whole or freshly ground to order. We also only blend in-house by ourselves to prevent any recipe tampering.
5. Fair, moving prices. We keep margins lean, but prices may change with the market—quality never does.

Our Vision Statement

We won’t trade quality for price. If it doesn’t meet the flavour we grew up with, it doesn’t carry the Regency name. We hope that all homes can experience food with traditional tastes the way nature provided them to us decades ago.

Our goal is simple: Protect real flavour. We source where each ingredient thrives, keep processing minimal, and never hide behind additives. Every batch must taste the way it’s meant to—bold, clean, consistent—so you never have to second-guess quality. You shouldn't need to tweak your recipes every season and you don't need to compromise on flavour.
