COVID-19 is still affecting the supplies of all Indian Spices - India was in a 90 day lockdown, which has only recently been lifted for most of the country. Parts of the country still have heavily restricted movement, and a huge backlog of operations is causing a slowdown while the country plays catchup. Indian spices are essential in most of the world's cooking (think cumin, coriander, black pepper, fennel)... these spices have widespread use from european to south american and also chinese cooking. Market Update: Cardamom, Onion Powder, Nutmeg, Mace

Green Cardamom prices have gone to an all time high of several decades, rocketing up for the last 10 weeks in a row. We are still not sure what is the main source of this surge in demand, but it could be due to huge price rises in Vanilla over the last 2 years leading to development of new dessert flavours. Other dessert-type of spices including Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Mace have all seen steady price rises for the last 3-4 months. Onion Powder is finally dropping in price, due to warm and wet weather in producing regions (India, China are the biggest).

Cinnamon (Cassia) prices have climbed tremendously in the last 2 months. Farmers claim very heavy rains leading to a lot of barks getting moulded. Due to low prices in recent few years, crop were also reduced. Pistachio prices have risen dramatically in the last 2 weeks. This appears to be general supply / demand issue and we expect it to be corrected back to normal in the coming few months. Kampot Peppercorn prices are gradually dropping.
