Green Cardamom prices have gone to an all time high of several decades, rocketing up for the last 10 weeks in a row. We are still not sure what is the main source of this surge in demand, but it could be due to huge price rises in Vanilla over the last 2 years leading to development of new dessert flavours. Other dessert-type of spices including Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Mace have all seen steady price rises for the last 3-4 months. Onion Powder is finally dropping in price, due to warm and wet weather in producing regions (India, China are the biggest).

Cardamom prices have started stabilizing after reaching an all time high. This spice shot up around 3X price for bulk exports - and at some point in time prices in supermarkets were actually cheaper than importing! Prices have dropped a little bit since the peak, but are still more than double what they were in the start of summer.
