Look for a dark colour, and the telltale spearmint and anise smell of Caraway. If this is missing, but the spice looks like Caraway, chances are that it is in fact Cumin! The two are often used to dilute one another in industry. Therefore, we advise caution when buying caraway seeds from small traders in certain countries where quality is not always first priority before price. In case you’re unsure, please refer to our quality and grade standards here when buying good quality caraway seeds.
