Recipe: Guacamole

cayenne pepper dried lime recipes

Whenever I go to a supermarket for grocery shopping in Hong Kong, I always see some people buying avocado. What I find it very interesting is the Chinese characters used for avocado, 鳄梨. It literally means “crocodile pear.” It seems they were named that way because the surface of avocado skin resembles that of crocodile’s. It’s always interesting to learn something new. Anyway, I have always been a big fan of this crocodile pear, and I always make guacamole when I make tacos. The addition of lime juice and a bit of hot chili makes avocado dip tastes so good.

Tips: (1) Some people add raw garlic while others add fresh coriander. Enjoy your own arrangement! (2) I like to use lime for my guacamole, but it can be substituted with lemon. (3) Avocados I can get in Hong Kong are relatively small in size, which is why I used 4.

Serving: 4

Ingredients

Cooking instructions

  1. Mash the avocados (I usually dice first and then mash using pestle and mortar). Squeeze in the lime and mix with mashed avocado.
  2. Mince the onion, then combine with the avocado mixture.
  3. Add the salt and cayenne pepper (Adjust the amount according to your taste).
  4. You now have your homemade guacamole. Enjoy with tomato salsa I shared in my previous article for homemade nachos or use it for other dishes such as tacos!
