Celery has been cultivated in the Mediterranean for thousands of years, dating back to 1000BC (at the very least!). Cultivation of celery spread across asia and europe hundreds of years ago and has now become a staple ingredient in nearly all cuisines. Celery seeds from India are a little larger than their European counterparts, making them easier to work with for cooking pickles and adding to sauces. Celery Seeds are often misunderstood to be Carom Seeds as they look nearly identical, just smaller! But while they are from the same family, their flavour and aromas are worlds apart.

Flavourwise, Indian celery is less minty and more earthy than its european counterparts, which are often reminiscient of Caraway seed aroma.
